SoGreen is a startup with a big heart and an even bigger ambition: A world where all girls realize their right to education and climate justice is placed at the heart of all climate action.
Behind SoGreen - A Need, a Science and a Dream
-
The Need: Girls' Education
129 million girls are out of school globally. Poverty is one of the main barriers as many parents in the world’s poorest communities cannot afford school fees, books, uniforms, etc. for their children.
Ensuring girls access to 12 years of education can help tackle underlying gender inequalities and harmful gender norms that structure girls’ and women’s unique climate vulnerabilities.
-
The Science: A Climate Solution
We apply rigorous science-based methods to quantify the climate impact of increasing girls’ education levels in low-income countries. The resulting empowerment and increased agency in decision making, e.g., on reproductive choices brings about lower future emissions. The impact, measured in tons CO2e avoided, is translated into carbon credits.

The Dream: How it Started
Having worked with local civil society organisations CSOs on development program implementation in low-income countries for years, our founder Guðný knew the constant struggle they faced in fundraising.
Knowing what a powerful climate solution girls’ education is, Guðný called upon some of the leading scientists in the field and once a exceptional team was gathered, they embarked on a journey that would become SoGreen.
“A great idea that turns challenges of the climate crisis into a social impact opportunity, while simultaneously fighting climate change. And promoting a fair transition.”
